Asian-Style Turkey or Chicken Burgers
You’ll need, per (approximately) 2 servings:
1 lb ground turkey or chicken
1 egg
a light sprinkling of ground black pepper
a small amount of garlic powder or freshly chopped crushed garlic
2 thin slices of fresh ginger, sliced into narrow sticks and cut lengthwise to make very small chunks
a spritz of soy sauce
a few drops of good quality sesame oil
1 tbsp green onions, fresh or frozen
1/4 cup plain steamed white rice
1 heaping teaspoon cornstarch
Put the meat in a large bowl and add the remaining ingredients.
Mix thoroughly until the mixture is completely even.
Use a serving spoon to scoop burger-sized patties, or e.g. an ice cream scoop or similar utensil to make appetizer-sized balls.
Fry golden brown in hot, fresh cooking fat. Using a good-quality frying oil, such as olive or grapeseed, further enhances the flavor.
Additionally cooking the burgers for about 30-45 minutes on moderate heat in the oven afterwards helps to ensure that they are fully done. Since this is a poultry dish, it is recommended to cut through the center of one of the largest burgers and inspect the inside before serving to ensure that it is fully cooked through.
Serve dinner-sized burgers with steamed white rice and fresh, crispy Caesar salad. For appetizers, fry small balls and insert a toothpick when done. Adding freshly prepared finger foods such as melon, pineapple, carrot and celery sticks makes for a visually appealing appetizer platter.
